Streszczenie

Modyfikacje stylu życia i farmakoterapia są w stanie zapewnić jedynie umiarkowane efekty w zakresie utraty wagi. Natomiast większość osób z otyłością dąży do redukcji masy ciała o 15% lub więcej, co zwykle osiąga się tylko dzięki chirurgii bariatrycznej. Operacje bariatryczne, mimo że najskuteczniejsze, wiążą się z najwyższym odsetkiem poważnych powikłań krótko- i długoterminowych. Dlatego nadal istnieje potrzeba opracowania mniej inwazyjnych metod leczenia o podobnej skuteczności klinicznej jak procedury klasycznej chirurgii bariatrycznej. Endoskopowe metody leczenia bariatrycznego, choć stosunkowo nowe, wydają się skuteczną i małoinwazyjną innowacją w leczeniu otyłości. W tej pracy omówiono mechanizmy i ogólne skutki działania najpopularniejszych metod endoskopowego leczenia patologicznie nadmiernej masy ciała oraz perspektywy rozwoju tej dziedziny medycyny.
